ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools have exploded onto the scene. The EU has enacted a broad AI law, and states are passing their own AI laws, even as the federal government scrambles to figure out how to regulate AI nationally.
AI compliance is complex and extends throughout the system’s life cycle. It requires proof that the system was trained on quality data that the developer had the right to use and that the models are reliable, transparent, secure, human-centric and unbiased.
Colorado and Utah have already enacted their own AI laws. California is proposing broad new CCPA regulations requiring detailed risk assessments for certain data practices and any development and use of automated decision-making technologies (ADMT). President Biden’s new Executive Order on Responsible AI Development will impose many new regulations on government contractors.
These laws are compounding the risk of data management at an extraordinary rate. Companies should make every effort to better understand this regulatory wave as it is clearly here to stay (and expand).
